Earrings

Earrings have been a fashion statement for as long as there has been human civilization. Digging up ancient civilizations has revealed that in older times both men and women were fond of wearing earrings. With the passage of time the trends have changed a lot and now in modern age, earrings are mostly considered a symbol of femininity. Earrings are an important and vital constituent of makeover of a girl or woman. They add to the beauty, style and elegance of the wearer depending upon their style and fashion. There are many types of the earrings, some of which are more popular than others. Like all other fashions, earrings too have adapted to modern age and are quite different from what they used to be in ancient times. But in essence an earring is something that is worn on or through the ear and looks like a ring, for ornamental purposes.

There are two basic types of earrings, which have been established since this fashion started. The main difference between the two types is, either the earing has a wire, or a post for the purpose of wearing. The rest of the body just hangs through the wire or post, or simply stands parallel to ear.  Stud earrings are those who have a post in them and the body of the earring has a back with friction which lets the earring sort of stick to the ear lobe so that it doesn’t fall or slip. These earrings do not form a full circle or ring, and thus the name, stud earrings. The other famous type is the one which has a wire which goes through the ear and forms a full circle. These are called Hoop earrings. Other famous types include, dangle, huggy and bajoran earrings. Bajoran earrings picked up trend after the Star trek movie. Ear threads utilize thin chains to pass through the ear and are also quite popular.

Although most earrings require the wearer to have their ears pierced. But there are also non pierced earrings available. These earrings utilize various methods to clip the ear instead of passing through it. Clip on, Ear Cuff, stick on/adhesive and magnetic earrings are some of the types of non-pierced earrings.

Earrings are priced at various levels. It depends upon the material used in it, whether it’s a current fashion earing or an old one, and finally the designer/shop it is bought from. But what really makes an earring pricy is the presence of embedded stones in it. Many actresses and models wear earring which cost so much that an ordinary person wouldn’t even think about purchasing those.  Diamond earrings, pearl earrings, gold earrings, white gold earrings are among the most expensive earrings you will find. Men’s earring also picked up trend in the 80’s as many super stars started wearing them, creating a culture. Although mens earrings have picked up trend, earrings primarily remain a women’s tool to enhance their look and appeal. Choosing the right earring for your face, clothes and body structure is an art in its own right. If you have a good knack for fashion then you probably won’t have to spend a lot to find the right earrings. If that is not the case you might find use of a friend who is into fashion.
